Interview by Jiwa
[01] Hello my friend Fabricio 'Brutalizer' Alves. How are you there? Tell us a little about yourself, and your life in Minas Gerais?
Fabricio: Hello, dear readers and lovers of good experimental art. First of all, thank you very much for inviting me to exchange ideas with you. I am privileged to live in a state where the extreme metal scene is known for names like Sarcófago, Sepultura, Chakal, among other bands that in the 80s contributed a lot to everything we hear in metal today. My life here is relatively peaceful. I live in a small town in the interior, my city is two hours away from the capital, Belo Horizonte.
[02] When did you become interested in noise genres and other sound styles in the experimental & electronic scene?
Fabricio: I became interested in experimental music, noise and extreme metal when I had access to the internet, in mid-2007. Here in the countryside, everything arrives late, and with internet access, it was no different. At the end of Orkut, I started participating in communities dedicated to Grindcore and Noisecore, and it was a step towards getting to hard noise. And here we are.
[03] Tell us a little bit about the history of Brutalize Netlabel and what exactly encouraged you to create this label?
Fabricio: Since I have a severe noise project, and I know the limitations of distributing physical materials, the idea of creating a virtual label worked out. I invited friends from the Brazilian scene, and they all agreed to release splits, compilations and their albums through Brutalize. And soon contacts from other countries appeared, like you, and since then we have been doing this exchange, without geographical limitations.
[04] How do you rate the responses & feedback from listeners / downloaders to the releases produced by Brutalize Netlabel?
Fabricio: The feedback has been totally positive, I am very grateful to the listeners, projects and bands that are in the catalog, for the promotion of their material. Without you, the Brutalize Netlabel would not exist.
[05] Do you open up opportunities and accept submissions for various music / sound genres (not just harsh-noises / HNW)?
Fabricio: We have no genre limitations, the label is not restricted to just harsh noise, we have dozens of albums in the catalog of many different styles and we want even more different styles to promote.
[06] What if someone wants to submit their works to be released under Brutalize Netlabel?
Fabricio: Contact me: brutalizerecs@gmail.com
[07] So far, which of the releases by Brutalize do you like the most and have had the biggest impact on your netlabel?
Fabricio: I would be unfair if I chose just one. But all of them are special, all of them. They are historical, precious and very important to the universe.
[08] What do you plan and hope for the future of Brutalize Netlabel? Maybe an actual record label with some physical copies (cds and tapes) released?
Fabricio: My plans for the future are to remain increasingly virtual. I have no intention of working with physical materials. But if someone is interested in some material and wants to release it in physical form, as long as they give credit to the producers and to Brutalize Netlabel. It will be interesting.
Fabricio: Misantropskia is an industrial/noise project, formed in 2009, and is still active today. I have many releases, with projects from all over the world, from splits to compilations.
[10] Thanks dude for your answers. Hope you will gain more success with Brutalize Netlabel and Misantropskia. Well, any last words?
Fabricio: I am grateful for the opportunity to exchange this idea with you. Truly, it is people like you who keep the "DO IT YOURSELF" spirit alive. And may we never lose this desire to produce. If anyone is interested, visit Brutalize Netlabel bandcamp.
