Interview - SMIXX


Pay your attention and salute to SMIXX, one of the production / record labels in the depth of Malaysian underground. This label stays true with do-it-yourself ethics and pure underground philosophies. SMIXX has rejected discrimination in music, has opened wide opportunities for diversity of genres. We at Hidden Sounds are proud to have a brief chat with the owner, Adary Dino.

[01] Hail and salute to Adary Dino. Apa khabar? Mind you share something about yourself and life?

Adary Dino: Hail and Salute. Good. There nothing interesting about me, just living simple life.

[02] Tell us everything about the history and background of SMIXX?

Adary Dino: The history about SMIXX officially started on July 2020. More likely to released new band or music, genre that never released in physical or by other label.

[03] What exactly encouraged you to form this label? 

Adary Dino: Yunus MTD. And I learn from him and Cikgu Wan (Gedebe Rekodz).

[04] It has been undeniable that SMIXX is a local (Malaysian) label that stands on truly strong underground principles, attitudes & spirits. Your further comment?

Adary Dino: Still trying to do the best and different.

[05] SMIXX is not only subject to metal, punk, grunge and the like but has also given room to other genres such as dungeon synth, dark ambient, cosmic drone, etc. Tell us more about your openness to experimental / electronic / post-industrial music?

Adary Dino: Yes. Even if got ghazal or dangdut band I want to released it. I listen all kind of music. About experimental / electronic / post-industrial music or shoegaze, I like it a lot. This a few youtube channel I like listen to Lostsonar Collective, Post Industrial New Revolution, In The Woods, The Daily Dose and many more.

[06] What is your opinion about synth-oriented music (Rahassa for example), Ambient, Harsh-Noise scene in our country Malaysia? Does it look weird and isolated? Will it develop to be more widely accepted?

Adary Dino: Yes,it is too isolated. That's why SMIXX released physical format like Rahassa, -5°C, Valley of Sorrow, Handcraft.

[07] What are some of the releases that you highly recommend from SMIXX (as-to-date)?

Adary Dino: Afsky and Bunuhdiri boxset.

[08] How do you see the future of the label?

Adary Dino: Do more D.I.Y spray cassette released and vinyl released.
